During the scene where she's putting on the costume, it seems like the dress would've zipped just fine if she had someone to help put it on. Such poignant symbolism; a life like what you dream of is so much closer than you think, but even the smallest resistance along the way feels like failure. It's easier and less painful in the short term to give up rather than reach out for someone who will help with your metaphorical zipper.
