Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Louis Gossett Jr. performed entirely on stilts in 100°F Hungarian mine conditions. The latex suit had no cooling system.
The film bombed in 1985 but became a cable staple—its 'enemy becomes family' structure directly influenced Avatar's Na'vi arc.
