Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Made during the Second Intifada, the film uses the apartment as metaphor for Palestinian entrapment — the 'move to America' is the ultimate fantasy of escape that keeps slipping away.
Hassouna reportedly shot the apartment scenes in chronological order without showing the full script to Rasha Mahdi, so her confusion mirrors Sarah's. The rotating square was a practical in-camera effect achieved by rotating the entire set.
