Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The aurora borealis phenomenon was inspired by a real 1989 solar storm that disrupted communications. The film originally had a darker ending where John died saving his father.
Released right before 9/11, its NYC firefighter heroism and 'save the hero' narrative accidentally became emotionally loaded for early 2000s audiences. The Mets World Series plot point aged weirdly since they lost in 1969... wait, no they actually won. Respect.
